Afrifa Mensah Reveals Overwhelming Costs Led To Suspension Of His TV Show

According to recent reports from Obuasi TV Official Facebook Page, Ghanaian media personality Afrifa Mensah has revealed the financial challenges behind the sudden off-air status of his popular television program, disclosing that astronomical guest expenses forced the show to a halt.

Opening up about the behind-the-scenes demands of running the broadcast, Mensah shared that he spent nearly GH¢50,000 simply to secure and maintain guests on the platform. He explained that attracting high-profile personalities capable of driving viewership required an enormous financial commitment, which ultimately proved unsustainable for independent production.

Mensah’s disclosure offers a rare glimpse into the heavy operational burdens faced by content creators in Ghana’s media industry. While securing studio airtime and generating compelling topics are central to broadcast success, the hidden costs of hosting guest commentators—including transport allowances, appearance fees, and hospitality—often create severe financial strain without adequate corporate sponsorship.

The presenter’s revelation has sparked debate across media and entertainment circles regarding the financial viability of local television programming. Industry insiders note that independent presenters often struggle to recoup production investments due to limited advertising revenue, leaving content creators to personally absorb mounting debts.

While it remains unclear whether the show’s suspension is permanent or temporary, Mensah’s comments highlight systemic challenges regarding financial support and resource allocation for media professionals. Viewers and industry stakeholders now await confirmation on whether the broadcaster will re-engineer his financial model for a future return or pivot to alternate broadcast platforms.
