“We Are Still Victorious Because We Are Alive” EFF Secretary-General Marshall Dlamini Breaks Silence

Following the November 4, 2026, local government elections in South Africa, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Secretary-General Marshall Dlamini made a rebellious statement about his party’s political standing. When asked about the organization’s current position in relation to the slogan “victory or death,” which has been a key rallying cry for its campaigns for a long time, Dlamini emphasised that the party is still very much alive and well and actively involved in national politics.

The party’s electoral performance is currently under intense scrutiny and public evaluation, which coincides with his remarks. Party leader Julius Malema used the “victory or death” slogan in the run-up to the local elections, telling party members to view the municipal contests as a litmus test for the future of the party and its ability to mobilise the grassroots. Calling on supporters to turn high-profile political rallies into decisive votes at the polls, the slogan served to rally the EFF base.

In response to questions regarding whether the election results were a disappointment, Dlamini maintained the same strident attitude that has defined the group since its inception in 2013. Rather than admitting defeat or indicating a retreat within the party, he highlighted its unwavering determination to continue being a powerful player in South African politics.

As the EFF’s latest electoral campaign has progressed, the political climate has grown more cutthroat. Competition for important voter bases in various municipalities has heated up, posing serious problems for the party. The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party stands out among rival political movements. In spite of these mounting political pressures, Dlamini’s comments send a strong message to all parties involved: the party will not back down from its aggressive national political ambitions, regardless of the final municipal tally.
