Today’s Headlines: Tinubu to Nigerians: I promise better future, Trump confirms new strikes on Iran

Tinubu to Nigerians: ‘I promise better future’.

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu yesterday promised a better future for Nigerians even as he took a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), declaring that they lacked the leadership qualities to govern Nigeria.

Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, spoke during his visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he urged voters to support his administration and Governor Umo Eno, insisting that continuity was necessary to sustain development.

Trump confirms new US strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island.

US President Donald Trump has confirmed US military strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island, claiming that Washington has made “a lot of progress” in talks with Iran.

Trump said on Friday that US forces had carried out what he described as minor strikes against Iranian air defence systems.

‘Sort out your internal mess’, APC tells Atiku, ADC after court judgment.

The All Progressives Congress APC has told the Senator David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress ADC to go sort out its internal mess and quit its “senseless rants” after a Federal High Court judgment sacked the faction’s leadership.

In a statement Friday in Abuja, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the ruling party had no hand in the case. “To be clear, APC is neither a party nor an interlocutor in the matter. Nothing about the case has anything to do with the APC. And the APC has absolutely no role in the party’s judicial quagmire,” he said.

The National Executive Committee Chairmen Forum of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to remove Senator David Mark and members of his dissolved Interim National Working Committee from its portal.

The forum threatened to organise a nationwide protest if the commission failed to implement a court judgement on the party’s leadership dispute.

It also called on INEC to replace their names with those of Nafiu Bala Gombe and other officials it considers the party’s legally recognised leaders.

The group further asked the commission to reopen its portal to enable the ADC to conduct fresh primaries where necessary and submit its candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The forum’s secretary, Kennedy Odion, made the demands while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, a day after Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the Mark-led interim leadership of the party.
