The Secret Mastermind Who Quietly Orchestrated Seema’s Move to Orlando Pirates

Lebone Seema’s rise at Orlando Pirates has revealed an interesting connection to his football beginnings in Alexandra, with a member of the Buccaneers’ technical team having played an important role in shaping the defender’s career long before his arrival at the Soweto giants.

The 23-year-old centre-back has emerged as one of the promising defensive players at Pirates following his arrival from TS Galaxy ahead of the 2025/26 season. However, details surrounding his development have now highlighted the influence of people who believed in his abilities during his early days in football.

According to a report by Africa Soccer, Pirates analyst Mxolisi Mngomezulu previously coached Seema at amateur level in Alexandra. Their relationship dates back several years, before they eventually found themselves working within the same professional football environment at Orlando Pirates.

Seema’s representative, Malesela Ngoasheng, reportedly confirmed the connection, explaining that Mngomezulu had been involved in the defender’s development during his formative years.

“Yes, he coached him at amateur level,” Ngoasheng confirmed.

Mngomezulu is also believed to have played a role in facilitating Seema’s move to Pirates, making his involvement in the defender’s journey even more significant.

Seema joined the Buccaneers after struggling to secure regular first-team opportunities at TS Galaxy. His switch to Mayfair, however, provided him with a fresh opportunity to establish himself at one of South Africa’s biggest football clubs.

Under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, the young defender has continued developing, impressing with his composure, physical strength, defensive awareness and ability to distribute the ball.

His progress demonstrates the importance of grassroots football development and mentorship in producing professional players.

For Pirates supporters, Seema’s story offers a fascinating reminder that his connection with the club began long before his professional arrival. His journey from amateur football in Alexandra to representing the Buccaneers highlights how early mentorship and important relationships can influence a footballer’s career.
