Raymond Omollo Urges Nairobi Women Leaders to Seek Decision-Making Roles

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has called for greater representation of women in leadership, saying grassroots women leaders should take a more active role in shaping Kenya’s development agenda.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Omollo said the country could not fully utilise its leadership potential while women who play important roles in communities remained on the margins of power.

He said the government’s Usawa ni Sawa agenda recognises the need to move women beyond community mobilisation and into decision-making, policy formulation and national development planning.

Omollo made the remarks after holding an engagement with women grassroots leaders drawn from all constituencies in Nairobi County.

The meeting was attended by Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o.

The Principal Secretary said women who organise and mobilise communities should also have opportunities to influence decisions affecting their communities and the country.

His message places emphasis on turning grassroots participation into meaningful representation in leadership and public policy.

Omollo has previously encouraged qualified women to pursue leadership positions in government administration, including opportunities as chiefs and assistant chiefs.

During a women’s empowerment forum in Nairobi in July 2026, he said greater female representation could strengthen governance, community mobilisation and service delivery.

The latest engagement signals continued attention to women’s participation in leadership under the Usawa ni Sawa agenda.
