Political Expert David Wafula Explains Why Wamuchomba is Pleading for Forgiveness from Gachagua
Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has once again become a subject of political discussion after expressing her willingness to reconcile with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The legislator reportedly appealed to Gachagua to forgive her, signalling a possible change of approach as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Wamuchomba indicated that she had made attempts to reach the former Deputy President privately to arrange a meeting but had not managed to secure an opportunity to speak with him. She further suggested that she was ready to apologise personally if her previous remarks or actions had offended him.
Political expert David Wafula has offered an explanation of the possible motivations behind the development, drawing attention to the changing political dynamics within the Mount Kenya region.
One of the major factors surrounding the situation is Gachagua’s growing influence in regional politics. Through his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), the former Deputy President has continued positioning himself as an influential political figure, particularly as leaders begin preparing for the next general election.
Wamuchomba and Gachagua previously shared political ground, especially during the former Deputy President’s impeachment proceedings in 2024, when the legislator publicly defended him.
However, their political relationship later experienced disagreements, with Wamuchomba questioning some of Gachagua’s political approaches and leadership strategies.
Her latest appeal has therefore raised questions about whether she is interested in rebuilding their relationship and finding common political ground before the next electoral contest.
The situation is also unfolding at a time when several Mount Kenya politicians are reassessing their political positions and considering the alliances that could shape their ambitions in 2027.
Wamuchomba’s willingness to involve other political leaders, including Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, in facilitating communication with Gachagua further demonstrates the attention surrounding the proposed reconciliation.
Nevertheless, it remains unclear whether Gachagua will accept the request and agree to a face-to-face meeting.
As political realignments continue, the relationship between the two leaders could become an important talking point in the wider Mount Kenya political contest.
