The South Africans were at the bruising best in Turin. By every performance metric measurable, these Springboks once again showed why they are setting at the head of the World Rugby table above the chasing pack of Test nations.
With that said, here we rate the top three performers in this one-sided Test in Turin.
It wouldn’t be amiss to say that Feinberg-Mngomezulu has had his share of detractors in recently weeks. It would be unfair to say that those criticisms were unfair. The young maverick has been guilty of inconsistency throughout his career.
Today, however, there’d been none of that. In his role as Springbok playmaker against the Azzurri, Feinberg-Mngomezulu delivered a flawless display in open play and off the kicking tee. For his personal 26-point haul, he had a 100% return for kicks at goal (nine conversions and a try) and a try. His was masterful on the ball too, breaking the Italian defence at will and bringing the crowd to its feet with his tactical kicking (including a scintillating 50:22).
Not the most athletic nor subtle Bok by any means, but Wiese is a force to be reckoned with in terms of brute force. Apart from his tireless work around the field, he made a rare midfield break by bustling his through a narrow gap before a instinctive inside pass to Damian Willemse, who ran in under the poles to score unopposed.
Marx did the increasing calls for him to win World Rugby Player Of the Year again no damage. In fact, his performance today would only enhance the belief that he ought to be crowned the world’s best for 2026.
The hooker scored two tries to capped off another remarkable outing in the green and gold.
