Dudu Zuma-Sambudla Questions IEC Over MK Party’s eThekwini Election Results

Regarding the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s performance in the 2026 eThekwini local government elections, Dudu Zuma-Sambudla has raised concerns with the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).

When asked about the parallels between the present results process and the contentious delays in the 2024 general elections, Zuma-Sambudla voiced her concern.

The MK Party’s support in eThekwini stayed at around 48% for more than three days during the previous election results process, she claimed in a post directed at the IEC.

She went on to say that there had been a blackout at the results center around that time, implying that people were starting to doubt how open the counting process was because of it.

Zuma-Sambudla said that the fluctuation of the MK Party’s results was reminding her of something she had experienced before by comparing it to the most recent election statistics.

The party’s percentage could continue to fluctuate without reaching or exceeding the 50% mark, she claimed, and she questioned whether the commission would permit a similar interruption to happen again.

“I understand that the result center is unable to execute another two-hour blackout due to suspicions, but I assure you that you will undoubtedly maintain fluctuating MK values that do not exceed 50%,” she wrote.

Finally, she challenged the IEC to disprove her worries at the end of her message.

One of the municipalities that garnered a lot of attention during the election process was eThekwini, and her remarks reflect the increasing political scrutiny of those results.

Given KwaZulu-Natal’s significance to the MK Party’s political support, the province’s performance has been closely observed.

Variations in provisional results do not, on their own, prove interference or manipulation, and Zuma-Sambudla’s claims have not been independently proven.

Vote tallying, verification, and public disclosure are all responsibilities of the IEC. Instead of using provisional percentages shown during counting, the final outcome will be based on the verified results.
