NDC Communicator Slams Sam George Over Confrontation With Soldier

A communicator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, to prioritise addressing challenges affecting internet services rather than engaging military personnel over their conduct during security operations.

The communicator explained that the military intervened after sand-winning activities reportedly threatened the stability of a high-tension electricity pole in the area, creating the risk of a collapse that could have disrupted power supply.

He criticised Sam George’s conduct during his confrontation with the military officers, describing his approach as disrespectful and unbecoming of someone holding public office. He maintained that the incident deserved condemnation.

Speaking on TV XYZ, the NDC communicator said the military personnel had been instructed to remove individuals engaged in activities beneath the high-tension power lines because of the danger posed to the electricity infrastructure.

He questioned why the Communications Minister challenged the officers over the authority behind their operation, despite the reported danger posed by the sand-winning activities.

The communicator also faulted Sam George for allegedly disclosing a soldier’s service number and speaking to him in a manner he considered inappropriate.

He further urged the minister to devote similar attention to persistent concerns about telecommunications services, particularly the rapid depletion of data bundles and poor internet speeds in some parts of the country.

According to him, the collapse of the high-tension electricity infrastructure could have caused a major power disruption, while the minister should also be engaging telecommunications companies to improve internet access and service delivery.

Sam George recently engaged in a heated confrontation with a military officer identified as Lieutenant Albert Goh over allegations that the officer had been intimidating residents of the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.

The minister alleged that the officer had entered the constituency with heavily armed soldiers and impounded several trucks without lawful authorisation.

He subsequently described Lieutenant Goh as a disgrace to the Ghana Armed Forces and called on the Chief of Defence Staff to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the officer.
