Matiang’i Breaks Silence After Gachagua Announces Death of Elder Sister
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has joined Kenyans mourning the family of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following the death of his eldest sister, Eunice Nyangari Gachagua.
Matiang’i, who leads the Jubilee Party, sent a condolence message on Friday, November 6, describing Gachagua as a brother and colleague as he acknowledged the family’s loss.
He also recognised the important role Eunice played in keeping the family together, noting that losing an elder who offered guidance and support was particularly painful.
The former CS extended his sympathies on behalf of the Jubilee Party fraternity, asking God to give the bereaved family strength and comfort during the difficult period.
His message also singled out Eunice’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they come to terms with her passing.
Gachagua had earlier announced that his sister died in Naro Moru at the age of 77.
In his statement, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader revealed that Eunice had become the family’s mother figure after their mother died seven years ago.
He remembered her as a cheerful and caring person whose presence brought warmth to those around her.
Gachagua also expressed gratitude for the 77 years she lived, saying the family would miss her guidance, kindness and the moments they shared.
Eunice was the firstborn child of the late Mzee Nahashon Gachagua Reriani and Martha Kirigo Gachagua.
Her death has drawn condolences as relatives and friends remember the role she played in the lives of her family members.
