Malema Says ANC Must Remove Ramaphosa if It Wants to Work With MK Party

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has suggested that President Cyril Ramaphosa should be removed from his position if the African National Congress (ANC) intends to form a coalition government with the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP).

Malema made the remarks while discussing the possibility of political cooperation between the ANC and the party led by former president Jacob Zuma following the 2026 Local Government Elections.

According to Malema, if Zuma demands Ramaphosa’s removal as one of the conditions for the MK Party to enter into a political agreement with the ANC, the ruling party should be willing to consider accepting that demand.

The EFF leader believes the ANC should not ignore such a condition if it is serious about establishing a working relationship with Zuma’s party. His comments suggest that Ramaphosa’s continued leadership could become a major point of disagreement in any potential political negotiations between the two organisations.

The remarks come as political parties begin exploring possible coalition partnerships following the local government elections. In municipalities where no party has secured an outright majority, negotiations are expected to determine which organisations will work together to establish new administrations.

A possible alliance between the ANC and MKP would carry considerable political significance, particularly because of the long-standing tensions between Ramaphosa and Zuma.

However, it is important to note that Malema was expressing his own position on the proposed political arrangement. His comments do not confirm that the MK Party has officially demanded Ramaphosa’s removal as a condition for entering coalition negotiations with the ANC.

As discussions surrounding possible coalitions continue, the relationship between the ANC, MKP and other political organisations could become increasingly important in shaping South Africa’s political future.
