Kenyans Warned of eCitizen Service Disruptions as Treasury Schedules System Maintenance

Kenyans who rely on the eCitizen platform for government services have been advised to complete urgent online transactions before scheduled system maintenance begins on Saturday night.

The National Treasury has announced two maintenance windows in November, warning that users may experience temporary interruptions or limited access to services during the exercises.

According to a public notice reported by The Star on November 5, the first maintenance period will begin at 10pm on Saturday, November 7, and end at 5am on Sunday, November 8.

The second exercise is scheduled for the same hours on November 14 and 15.

The Treasury, through its Government Digital Payments Department, said the work is intended to upgrade the platform, improve performance and strengthen security.

The notice did not identify every individual service that could be affected or confirm that all eCitizen services would become completely unavailable. Users should therefore prepare for possible interruptions during the stated hours.

The government has advised members of the public to plan ahead and complete urgent transactions before maintenance begins. This is particularly important for people with pending applications, payments or deadlines that fall during the overnight periods.

The eCitizen portal provides access to a wide range of government services, including applications and payments handled by different public agencies.

According to the National Treasury, the digital payments programme was established to make government payments more convenient, improve revenue collection and reduce the cost of handling public payments.

The scheduled upgrades are expected to support the reliability of the platform as more Kenyans depend on digital services.

Anyone planning an urgent transaction should avoid waiting until the last minute and check the official portal for service updates.
