Ken Ofori-Atta Pays Tribute To Late CLOGSAG Boss Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo

Former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has paid tribute to the late Dr Isaac Akuetteh Bampoe Addo, describing him as the “Lion King of CLOGSAG” in recognition of his leadership and contributions to organised labour in Ghana.

According to a report by Graphic Online on November 7, 2026, Mr Ofori-Atta’s tribute was published in the funeral brochure for Dr Bampoe Addo and his twin brother, Sidney Nii Oko Bampoe Addo, as their final funeral rites were held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

In his tribute, the former Finance Minister recalled his seven-year working relationship with Dr Bampoe Addo, particularly their involvement in negotiations concerning the national daily minimum wage and the determination of base pay under the Public Service Joint Staff Negotiating Committee.

Mr Ofori-Atta described the late labour leader as an enigma and patriot who combined firmness with wit. He also praised his negotiation skills and ability to maintain cooperation between government and organised labour during difficult periods.

He specifically highlighted Dr Bampoe Addo’s contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP). According to him, the negotiations surrounding the debt exchange involved difficult discussions before an agreement was reached, with both government and the unions making efforts to protect their respective interests.

The former Finance Minister further described their relationship as one built on trust, respect and a shared commitment to the Republic. He also placed Dr Bampoe Addo among some of Ghana’s respected labour leaders.
