Kawira Mwangaza Tells Kenyans to Prepare for President Edwin Sifuna
Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has stirred political debate after declaring that Kenyans should get used to the idea of Edwin Sifuna becoming the country’s next President.
Mwangaza made the remarks while expressing confidence in Nairobi Senator Sifuna’s presidential ambitions ahead of the August 2027 General Election.
Her statement reflects her continued support for the Linda Mwananchi Movement, which has positioned Sifuna as its presidential candidate.
The former governor has repeatedly urged Kenyans, particularly residents of the Mount Kenya region, to rally behind Sifuna, arguing that his political ambitions should not be dismissed because of his financial background.
During an earlier Linda Mwananchi political tour of Meru on August 30, 2026, Mwangaza asked residents to support Sifuna and help him pursue the presidency.
She described him as a people’s project, calling on ordinary Kenyans to contribute towards his campaign rather than leaving the responsibility to wealthy individuals.
Mwangaza also recalled her impeachment as Meru governor in 2024, praising Sifuna and other leaders who opposed her removal from office in the Senate.
The statement comes amid growing political activity within the Linda Mwananchi Movement, which has identified Sifuna as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
Mwangaza has been among the political leaders openly campaigning for Sifuna, arguing that his leadership ambitions deserve support from Kenyans across different regions.
During the August 30 political tour of Meru, she urged residents to embrace the Nairobi Senator and support his ambition to become Kenya’s sixth President.
She also challenged the perception that presidential campaigns must be financed by wealthy politicians, saying ordinary Kenyans could contribute towards making Sifuna’s political ambitions possible.
“Sifuna is not wealthy like the rest, it is us Kenyans who contribute for his campaign,” Mwangaza said during the Meru engagement.
On October 30, Sifuna unveiled a proposed leadership structure for the Linda Mwananchi Movement Party during the launch of its headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.
Mwangaza was among those proposed for senior leadership, with Sifuna naming her as one of four deputy party leaders.
Other proposed officials included Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi as party chairperson, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi as secretary-general and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya as head of the presidential campaign team.
The proposed leadership structure is expected to be presented to delegates for ratification during the National Delegates Convention scheduled for November 13, 2026.
Sifuna’s presidential ambitions have become a significant part of the emerging opposition political discussions as different leaders position themselves ahead of the next General Election.
His supporters are seeking to expand the movement beyond Nairobi and establish a political presence across all 47 counties.
Mwangaza’s latest declaration adds to the growing list of leaders publicly backing his ambitions.
However, Sifuna has not yet been elected President, and the 2027 presidential contest will ultimately be decided by Kenyan voters through the constitutional electoral process.
As political realignments continue, attention will remain on whether Linda Mwananchi can build a nationwide organisation capable of translating its political support into electoral votes.
