It will be a great thing, a joy, and would never be forgotten in life – Flamingos captain Chidi
According to a report by FIFA.com on Friday, November 6, 2026, Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team captain, Harmony Chidi, has described winning the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup as a moment of immense joy that would remain unforgettable for her, her teammates, and the entire country.
The Flamingos captain made this known in an interview with FIFA ahead of Nigeria’s highly anticipated final against Japan on Saturday [today] in Morocco.
Chidi acknowledged that reaching the final was already a significant achievement for the Nigerian team but expressed her desire to go one step further by lifting the trophy and making history.
“I think it would be a great thing, a joy, and would never be forgotten in life,” the striker stated.
“Reaching the final is a very big thing, it’s a great thing, and it’s something that we have dreamed of. [Winning] would be something myself, my country, my team-mates, our coaches, and everybody would be proud of.”
Nigeria have already made history by becoming the first African nation to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Flamingos secured their place in the final after an impressive recovery from a 2-1 opening defeat to Poland in Group B, going on to record five consecutive victories against Puerto Rico, defending champions North Korea, Mexico, Venezuela, and Brazil.
Their remarkable campaign reached another milestone with a convincing 3-1 victory over Brazil in the semi-final, securing Nigeria’s first-ever appearance in the competition’s final.
Head coach Akeem Busari has also credited psychological guidance, improved mentality, and the players’ determination for the team’s impressive turnaround following their opening-match disappointment.
With Japan standing between Nigeria and their maiden world title, Chidi and her teammates will be hoping to complete their historic journey with victory.
A triumph would not only give Nigeria their first U-17 Women’s World Cup title but also make the country the first African nation to win the prestigious competition.
