Government Shares Fresh Details Ahead of Next Fuel Price Review

Motorists and other fuel consumers across the country are waiting for the next fuel price announcement after the government shared fresh details ahead of the upcoming review.

The announcement is expected to attract considerable attention from Kenyans who rely on petrol, diesel and kerosene for transport, businesses and household activities.

Fuel prices remain a major concern because changes at the pump often have a direct impact on transport fares, the cost of essential goods and the general cost of living.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi had previously indicated that the government was preserving resources in the Petroleum Development Levy stabilisation fund ahead of the November fuel price review.

The move is expected to give the government some room to respond to possible increases in international fuel costs and protect consumers from sharp price changes.

There are also indications that developments in the international oil market could influence the next adjustment. Data from the Central Bank of Kenya showed that Murban crude oil prices declined from USD 110.46 per barrel on October 29 to USD 94.04 on November 5.

The decline could create room for lower pump prices if the trend continues and other import-related expenses remain favourable.

However, the final decision will depend on several factors, including the cost of imported petroleum products, the exchange rate and other charges considered during the monthly review.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) is expected to announce the revised fuel prices by November 14. The new rates will take effect from November 15 and remain in force until December 14.

The upcoming announcement will therefore be important for households, transport operators and businesses planning their monthly expenses.

Kenyans will be watching closely to establish whether the latest developments will translate into cheaper fuel or whether pump prices will remain relatively high.
