Ghanaian Music Star Mr Gyan Says Hushpuppi Protected Him in US Prison

Ghanaian entertainer Henry Gyan, widely known as Mr Gyan, has disclosed that convicted Nigerian fraudster Ramon Abbas, popularly called Hushpuppi, protected him from the harsh realities of prison life while he served a sentence in the United States.

In an interview with Fiifi Pratt on Aluta FM, the former member of Ghanaian music group Twens opened up about his arrest by the FBI, his experience with the American justice system, and the people who stood by him during his incarceration.

According to Mr Gyan, Hushpuppi came to his aid while they were both held in an American prison, helping him avoid some of the brutal experiences inmates often faced.

Mr Gyan also expressed disappointment in several influential Ghanaian figures he reached out to for help during his difficult period. He said many of those he expected to support him ignored his pleas, though musician Keche Joshua was among the few who offered assistance.

He further revealed that he met his wife, Beverly Konadu, known on social media as Crazy Virgin, while he was in prison. He said she supported him financially and remained committed to caring for him throughout his incarceration.

Commenting on his FBI arrest, Mr Gyan insisted he does not consider himself an internet fraudster, claiming he merely received money from another person. He nevertheless acknowledged the investigative capabilities of US federal authorities, saying the FBI would not pursue someone without evidence.

His remarks came days after the US Department of Homeland Security’s “Worst of the Worst” criminal aliens database in October 2026.

US federal court records show Gyan was sentenced on June 29, 2023, to 81 months in prison for his role in a wire fraud and money laundering scheme. He was also ordered to pay more than $4 million in restitution. He served part of his sentence at a federal correctional facility in Fort Dix, New Jersey, before being deported to Ghana.
