EFCC Chairman Says Pastor Adeboye Ordered Refund of Billions in Illicit Donations

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has revealed that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, ordered the immediate refund of billions of naira donated to a church project after the funds were discovered to be proceeds of financial crime.

According to Punch on Saturday, November 7, 2026, Olukoyede made the disclosure while addressing RCCG workers during a meeting organised by the church ahead of its annual Holy Ghost Congress. He said Pastor Adeboye had invited him to speak on financial accountability, transparency and proper management of church funds.

The EFCC chairman explained that a church member had donated billions of naira towards an RCCG project, but investigations later revealed that the money came from financial crime.

He said that immediately the church was informed about the source of the donation, Pastor Adeboye directed that the entire amount should be returned within 24 hours.

Olukoyede praised the cleric for his decision, describing the action as an example of integrity and responsible leadership. However, he did not disclose the identity of the donor, the particular church project or the exact amount involved.

The EFCC boss, who is also an ordained pastor, expressed concern over the increasing cases of financial crimes involving religious leaders and questionable financial dealings surrounding church projects.

He warned church workers against accepting suspicious donations or engaging in financial activities that could damage the reputation of their churches.

In his response, Pastor Adeboye reportedly maintained that the RCCG would not protect anyone found guilty of financial wrongdoing.

He also urged pastors within the church to maintain proper financial records and ensure that their activities remained transparent and free from corruption.
