“Dada Morero Is Not Even Qualified to Be a Company Cleaner, Yet You Want Him to Run Joburg” Mashele

Political analyst Prince Mashele has launched a fierce criticism of Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero, questioning his leadership capabilities and suitability to continue leading South Africa’s economic hub.

In a blunt assessment, Mashele reportedly questioned whether Morero possessed the qualifications and competence required to manage a major institution, let alone govern a city as complex and economically important as Johannesburg.

“Dada Morero can’t even qualify to be a cleaner at a company, but you want him to run an entire Johannesburg?” Mashele said.

The remarks have added to the growing political debate surrounding Johannesburg’s leadership as political parties assess the outcome of the 2026 local government elections and begin considering possible coalition arrangements.

Johannesburg remains one of the most politically significant municipalities in South Africa. Its administration faces major challenges, including deteriorating infrastructure, water and electricity disruptions, service delivery complaints, unemployment and financial pressures.

Mashele’s comments appear to reflect broader concerns about the quality of political leadership and the ability of elected officials to manage major metropolitan municipalities effectively.

The statement is also likely to intensify scrutiny of the ANC’s performance in Johannesburg, particularly as opposition parties position themselves for influence in the city’s next administration.

With coalition negotiations expected to shape the future of the municipality, the question of who should occupy the mayoral office is becoming increasingly important.

Mashele’s remarks were particularly sharp, turning the spotlight on Morero’s suitability for the position and adding another controversial voice to the heated political debate over who should govern Johannesburg.
