Da Cruz Explains Tactical Flexibility Behind Kaizer Chiefs’ Changing Formations
Fernando da Cruz, head coach of the Kaizer Chiefs, has described why his club uses a back-four and a back-five configuration on a rotating basis. He has said that the strengths of the teams they play against and the availability of players impact his tactical decisions.
The Chiefs coach has stated that his defence structure choice is fluid and subject to change based on game situations. When deciding on his starting lineup, he takes a number of things into account, including injuries, player availability, and the tactical needs of forthcoming opponents.
Da Cruz, in outlining his tactical philosophy, stressed that shifting the defense’s configuration does not imply giving up on the team’s offensive identity.
The head coach has stated that the offensive strategy of the Chiefs will not vary regardless of the number of defenders they use.
“Sometimes it is related to the players available, players injured or not, and sometimes it is related to the opponent,” explains Da Cruz.
He went on to say that it’s crucial for the team’s offensive game model to remain constant regardless of the formation they play in. “Playing with a back five or a back four, the structure does not alter our offensive game model,” he said. He emphasised the importance of maintaining attacking concepts and ideas in order to win matches.
His remarks show how he values tactical flexibility while keeping Naturena’s attacking mentality consistent.
