DA Candidate Lynda Shackleford Secures Decisive Victory in Johannesburg Ward 103
African National Congress (ANC) candidate Hai Shi has reportedly suffered a significant defeat in the Ward 103 councillor election in Johannesburg, with Democratic Alliance (DA) candidate Lynda Margaret Shackleford emerging victorious.
According to the latest available election results, Shackleford secured an overwhelming majority of the votes, strengthening the DA’s position in the ward.
The figures indicate that the DA received 17,907 votes, representing 74.01% of the total, while the ANC managed to obtain 1,272 votes, equivalent to 5.26%.
The results highlight a substantial difference in electoral support between the two political parties in Ward 103, with the DA maintaining a commanding lead over its ANC rival.
Earlier preliminary results had also shown Shackleford ahead of Hai Shi by a considerable margin. At that stage of the counting process, the DA candidate had reportedly received 2,049 votes, while the ANC candidate had secured only 158 votes.
The outcome represents a major setback for the ANC in the Johannesburg ward, as the party struggles to maintain its electoral support amid the broader contest for local government seats across South Africa.
Shackleford’s victory adds to the DA’s electoral gains in Johannesburg as the counting of votes continues.
The final outcome will contribute to the broader picture of political support in the city following the local government elections.
