Aisha Yesufu Tackles APC For Smear Campaign After Oshiomhole Accuses Peter Obi Of Not Paying Tax On National TV

Human rights activist and supporter of Peter Obi’s presidential candidacy, Aisha Yesufu, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) following allegations by Senator Adams Oshiomhole that the former Anambra State governor does not pay taxes and keeps some of his assets offshore.

Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District and is a prominent supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, made the allegation while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday. A clip of the interview was shared on social media on Saturday.

During the programme, the former Edo State governor accused Obi of manipulating financial records to avoid paying taxes and keeping his wealth outside Nigeria.

“Peter Obi does not pay tax. He cleverly manipulates the books and keeps his own taxes and a lot of his huge assets offshore,” Oshiomhole said.

Reacting to the allegation, Yesufu accused the ruling APC of becoming increasingly preoccupied with Obi, suggesting that the attacks were part of an attempt to damage his reputation ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a post on her X handle, the activist said the attention being given to Obi by members of the ruling party showed that they considered him a major political challenge.

“APC is obsessed with Peter Obi! The way they are all going after him now shows that they have gotten the memo that rigging will not be an option, so they are resorting to smear campaigns!” Yesufu wrote.

Oshiomhole’s allegation and Yesufu’s response have added to the growing political exchanges between supporters of Tinubu and Obi as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

However, the tax evasion and offshore asset allegations against Obi remain claims made by Oshiomhole, and no supporting evidence was provided in the material accompanying the interview clip.
