Zuma Sends A Powerful Message To South Africans Claiming Lead

Former South African President Jacob Zuma has expressed confidence in the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s electoral prospects, declaring that the organisation is prepared to take control of municipalities across the country following the 4 November 2026 local government elections.

Zuma delivered the message while addressing thousands of party supporters at the MK Party’s final major campaign rally held at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, north of Durban, on Sunday, 1 November. The gathering marked the conclusion of a major campaign drive as the party seeks to strengthen its political influence and secure victories in municipal councils.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Zuma maintained that the party was ready to assume governing responsibilities and called on supporters to remain confident ahead of election day.

“In a few days we will be taking back our country. In a few days we will be taking over our land. We will be in charge of many municipalities. No matter what other people can say and do, we are ready,” Zuma told supporters.

He also urged South Africans to exercise their democratic rights by participating in the elections, encouraging voters to support the MK Party as a vehicle for political change.

The upcoming polls represent an important test for the organisation, which was established in 2023 and made a significant breakthrough during the 2024 national elections. The party is now seeking to extend its influence into local government, where municipalities are responsible for delivering essential services to communities.

One of its biggest electoral ambitions is gaining control of eThekwini Municipality, which has emerged as a major political battleground. Persistent concerns surrounding water shortages, electricity supply, poor service delivery and municipal accountability have become central issues in the campaign.

Zuma’s appearance also attracted considerable attention because it marked his return to active campaigning following a recent hospitalisation. His presence at the stadium generated excitement among supporters who welcomed the opportunity to hear directly from their leader.

During his address, Zuma further highlighted the importance of unity among black South Africans, arguing that the country needed leadership committed to improving the living conditions of ordinary citizens.

However, the party must now demonstrate that its confidence can translate into votes. Its ability to secure municipal control and effectively manage local government will ultimately determine whether its ambitions become reality.
