Wicknell Chivayo Allegedly Left R18m Balance on Harare Mansion
New details have emerged about the multimillion-rand Harare mansion occupied by late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo before his death.
According to reports from The NewsHawks, Chivayo allegedly had not fully settled the purchase of the luxury property in the Gletwyn area when he died in a helicopter crash on 30 September 2026. The businessman died alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, and other people in the crash near Marondera.
The mansion was reportedly sold to Chivayo by former Zimbabwean police commissioner Augustine Chihuri in May 2024. The agreed purchase price was said to be US$2.5 million, with Chivayo reportedly paying US$1.4 million.
That left an alleged balance of US$1.1 million, equivalent to roughly R18 million. Reports claim the remaining amount was not simply expected to be paid in cash but was linked to what sources described as “political services”.
The arrangement has reportedly created difficulties because the alleged services were not clearly documented or given a straightforward monetary value. With Chivayo now deceased, questions remain over how the outstanding portion of the agreement could be resolved.
Another issue concerns the property’s ownership. Reports say the title deed had not been transferred into Chivayo’s name, meaning Chihuri allegedly remained the registered owner while the transaction remained incomplete.
The property’s valuation has also attracted attention. Although the mansion was reportedly sold for US$2.5 million, Zimbabwean authorities were said to have valued it at about US$7 million, creating a substantial difference between the two figures.
The revelations have sparked discussion online, with social media users reacting to the unusual circumstances surrounding the property and the unfinished deal.
For now, the reported ownership and financial questions surrounding the mansion remain tied to the details of the original agreement and any legal steps that may follow.
