Mahama Announces Plans To Add 100 New Ambulances To Ghana’s National Fleet

According to a report by TV3 Ghana on November 6, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government is set to procure 100 new ambulances to strengthen the fleet of the National Ambulance Service.

The planned procurement is aimed at improving emergency healthcare delivery and ensuring that the Service has more operational vehicles to respond to medical emergencies across the country. The ambulances are expected to increase the Service’s capacity to transport patients to health facilities when urgent medical attention is required.

Speaking at an event, President Mahama confirmed the government’s plans, stating that the 100 new vehicles would help restock the National Ambulance Service’s fleet and address existing shortages.

Beyond the procurement of new vehicles, the President disclosed that the Service had informed the government about 100 broken-down ambulances that could be restored to operation if the necessary spare parts were purchased. He explained that acquiring the required parts would help bring the vehicles back into service.

The government’s approach will therefore involve both purchasing additional ambulances and repairing existing ones to increase the number of vehicles available for emergency operations. This could help reduce the number of ambulances currently out of service.

The restoration of the broken-down vehicles is also expected to provide an opportunity to improve the Service’s operational capacity without depending entirely on the purchase of new ambulances.

Although specific details regarding the delivery schedule, procurement cost and distribution of the new vehicles were not disclosed, the announcement highlights the government’s plans to strengthen the National Ambulance Service and improve emergency medical transportation across Ghana.
