Big Six Deserve Their Place, But Individual Achievements Must Be Recognised, Says Dr Collins Rawling

According to a report by TV3 Ghana on 6th November 2026, the Acting Executive Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Dr. Collins Rawlings Nunyomameh, has stated that while the Big Six deserve their place, there is a need to disentangle them and look at their individual achievements.

Dr. Nunyomameh made the remarks amid a request to put the Independence Declaration picture on new banknotes. The request has drawn attention to how the Big Six are remembered and presented.

Speaking on the matter, Dr. Nunyomameh was clear that the Big Six deserve their place. He, however, noted that they are sometimes grouped all together under that single name.

“The Big Six deserve their place. Sometimes, we group them all together as the Big Six, but we also need to disentangle them and look at their individual achievements,” he said.

His statement acknowledges the standing of the Big Six while also calling for a closer examination of each member. According to Dr. Nunyomameh, treating them only as a collective is not enough, and their individual achievements also deserve to be looked at.

The comments were made against the backdrop of the request to put the Independence Declaration picture on new banknotes. Dr. Nunyomameh’s position adds a perspective to the discussion, as the Acting Executive Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

By speaking of both the group and its individual members, he highlights the need for balance: respecting the place of the Big Six in the nation’s story, while also giving attention to what each person achieved.

Dr. Nunyomameh’s message is therefore two-fold: the Big Six deserve their place, and the individual achievements of each of them should not be lost when they are spoken of together. The request regarding the new banknotes is the context in which the call was made.
