Kogi West: Sam Aro Receives Rousing Welcome in Lokoja After Court Affirms Primary Win

TweetSupporters line route from Gegu to Lokoja after Federal High Court judgment on Kogi West Senate ticketThousands of supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed Samuel Bamidele Aro to Kogi and Lokoja local government areas on Friday, hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja declared him the winner of the party’s primary for Kogi West Senatorial District.

The judgment affirmed Aro as winner of the APC primary held in May, ahead of the 2027 general elections. It restored his mandate as the party’s candidate for the seat.

Party supporters turned out in large numbers along the stretch from Gegu to Koton Karfe in Kogi Local Government Area, and in Lokoja, the state capital, according to a correspondent who witnessed the reception.

Aro later went to the residence of the Kogi State Security Adviser, retired Navy Commander Jerry Omodara, where party leaders were waiting.

Speaking to the leaders, Aro thanked God and party members for their support and welcomed the court’s decision. He said he was ready to work with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the local government chairmen in the district to attract development.

“I want to tell you that I will not betray you,” Aro said. “My own reign, when God ordained it, is for me to create unity among the people of Kogi West and among the people of Kogi State in general.”

He pledged to work with local governments, youths, community leaders and women if elected, and said he had no political enemies. “I have no enemy. Everybody is my friend,” he said.

Aro urged residents to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote for Tinubu in the elections, which he said would take place in January 2027.

Omodara, who leads the Kogi West APC Leaders Forum, said the group was prepared to deliver victory for the party in the district. He described Aro as a reliable and trusted leader who would not disappoint the people.

Other forum leaders, including former Speaker Alfa Imam and Alhaji Shuaibu Ipinmisho, said the victory was well deserved. They also expressed confidence in Aro’s prospects at the polls.

The entourage later moved to the Lokoja Amusement Park, where jubilant supporters received the candidate.
