Health Committee Chair Dismisses Minority’s Claims on Health Information System

According to a report by TV3 Ghana on 6th November 2026, Dr. Mark Kurt Naawane, Chairman of the Health Committee in Parliament, has rejected claims by the Minority Leader about the country’s health information system, insisting that patient care is not at risk.

Speaking in Parliament, Dr. Naawane dismissed reports of delays and long queues at health facilities, which have been linked to the system. “The Minority Leader got it all wrong. Patient care is not at risk. There’s nothing like delays or long queues,” he stated.

His comments follow a call by the Minority for answers on the health information system, a digital platform meant to streamline patient records, improve service delivery and strengthen healthcare management nationwide. The Minority had raised concerns about the system’s performance and its possible effect on patients’ access to timely care.

Dr. Naawane’s response reflects the Majority’s position that the system is functioning as intended and that fears of disruption are unfounded. As Chairman of the Health Committee, his remarks carry weight in parliamentary discussions on health policy and oversight.

The exchange highlights the debate over digitalisation in Ghana’s healthcare sector. Supporters say electronic systems can reduce paperwork, cut waiting times and improve data-driven decisions. Critics often warn that poor implementation, connectivity challenges or technical failures can undermine care if not properly managed.

The competing claims have also renewed calls for transparency. Observers say independent assessments, clear performance data and regular updates from the Ministry of Health and its agencies would help the public judge the system’s effectiveness.

As Parliament continues to scrutinise the matter, stakeholders including health workers, patients and civil society groups are expected to follow developments closely. For many Ghanaians, the key issue remains whether the system delivers faster, safer and more efficient healthcare.
