EFF Celebrates Gains In 2026 Local Elections As Party Closes In On One Million Votes
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has expressed satisfaction with its performance in the ongoing 2026 Local Government Elections, saying the latest results indicate growth compared with the previous municipal elections in 2021.
EFF National Elections Spokesperson, Fighter Sixo Gcilishe, shared the party’s assessment while speaking to Mhlobo Wenene FM and Tru FM at the Results Operations Centre (ROC), where election results are being processed.
Gcilishe highlighted that the EFF has already secured more council seats than it did in the 2021 Local Government Elections, describing the developments as encouraging for the party.
She also revealed that the EFF is closing in on the one-million-vote mark, as votes continue to be counted across the country.
The party’s positive assessment comes as political formations closely monitor the results, with the outcome expected to shape the composition of municipal councils and determine possible coalition arrangements in several municipalities.
For the EFF, increasing its council representation would be an important achievement as it seeks to strengthen its influence in local government and expand its political support base.
However, the final picture will only become clearer once the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) completes the counting and verification processes and officially declares the results.
With counting still underway, the EFF remains optimistic about its performance, pointing to the additional council seats and its progress towards one million votes as signs of electoral growth.
