Ashabi Simple Begins NYSC Programme at Ogun Orientation Camp

According to a report published by Punch on November 6, 2026, Nollywood actress Ashabi Simple, who has two children with Nigerian singer Portable, has begun her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme at the Ogun State orientation camp in Sagamu. The actress announced her participation through Instagram posts, describing the experience as the fulfilment of a long-held personal ambition.

Ashabi, whose real name is Akinyanju Omobolarinde, explained that her educational journey took several years before she eventually reached the national service stage. She said it took her five years after secondary school to begin university and another three years after graduation to start her one-year NYSC programme.

In her announcement, she recalled a statement her mother once made to her and her sister about wanting them to complete their education and wear the NYSC uniform.

Ashabi said those words had remained in her memory and continued to motivate her. She described joining the scheme as a personal goal and a promise she was determined to fulfil.

The actress expressed happiness about finally serving Nigeria, adding that the achievement meant a lot to her and her family. She also appreciated the people who encouraged and supported her throughout her educational journey.

In another Instagram post, Ashabi spoke about the reception she received at the orientation camp. She said fellow corps members welcomed her with greetings, hugs and food, making her feel appreciated.

She jokingly remarked that the attention made her wonder whether everyone was excited because a celebrity had arrived at the camp. She added that she was grateful for the kindness shown to her.

Ashabi’s relationship with Portable has previously attracted public attention. In a January 13, 2026 report, QEDNG covered her explanation of the incident that led to the singer’s arrest following a confrontation involving her family at his bar in Ogun State.

Premium Times also published an interview with Ashabi on February 7, 2026, in which she discussed her relationship with the singer and alleged that he had promised to marry her.

The actress and Portable share two children. Their disagreements have occasionally played out publicly, drawing attention to their relationship and family affairs.

Her latest announcement, however, centres on a different part of her life. By beginning her national service, Ashabi says she has achieved a personal ambition that took several years of education and waiting to fulfil.
