Alfred Mutua Lands in Tanzania in Style with His Own Plane

Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua made a memorable entrance at Charlene Ruto’s wedding by piloting his own aircraft to Tanzania.

A photo shared on November 5, 2026, by social media user Engineer John Macharia, who goes by @engjohnmacharia, shows the two men posing in front of the small propeller plane on what appears to be a runway.

The aircraft carries a South African flag emblem and is a Sling TSi, a four-seat, single-engine, low-wing light sport plane powered by a turbocharged Rotax engine and built by Sling Aircraft in South Africa.

The flight reflects an ambition Mutua held for decades. He grew up in Riruta Satellite and long dreamed of becoming a pilot, but financial pressures and a demanding career forced him to set the plan aside for many years.

He finally enrolled at 99s Flying School in 2023 and trained in Kenya and South Africa before earning his Private Pilot Licence. He has since logged more than 300 flying hours.

Mutua has spoken openly about his aviation journey and uses it to encourage young Kenyans to chase their goals despite the obstacles in their way.

Flying himself to one of the most talked-about weddings of the year is perhaps the most visible demonstration of that message so far.

Several prominent Kenyan figures crossed the border to celebrate with the First Daughter, whose white wedding to Isaya Yunge took place in Mwanza on November 6.

Mutua is the latest to draw attention for how he arrived, following Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, who pulled up at the venue in a black G-Wagon.
