“Tukutane Ground” After Gachagua Called Out Hotel Politics, Kalonzo Takes His Campaign to Nyanza

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is preparing to take his campaign message to Migori and Homa Bay counties in a two-day tour scheduled for November 5 and 6, 2026.

The visit, branded the Ukombozi Tour, will feature public rallies and engagements with residents in several towns. The itinerary places Migori first, before the team moves to Homa Bay the following day, as opposition leaders seek support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

On Thursday, November 5, Kalonzo is scheduled to begin in Ntimaru, in the Kuria area, at noon. He will then proceed to Kehancha at 2pm before addressing residents at Posta Grounds in Migori town at 4pm. The programme was announced by the Wiper Party and published in reports on the planned tour.

The second day will focus on Homa Bay County. Kalonzo’s itinerary lists a visit to the Tom Mboya Mausoleum at 9.30am, followed by engagements in Oyugis at 1pm and Kendu Bay at 4pm.

The tour follows criticism by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of opposition leaders who, in his view, rely too heavily on hotel meetings and consultations instead of mobilising voters on the ground. Gachagua has urged his colleagues to engage directly with the electorate as they prepare to challenge President William Ruto.

Kalonzo’s planned visit comes amid wider efforts by opposition figures to build cooperation while positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 contest. The opposition has not yet settled on a joint presidential candidate, and leaders continue to pursue public engagements in different regions.

The two-day programme will give Kalonzo an opportunity to address residents in the six listed stops and present his political message. It also places his campaign activity in Nyanza within the continuing discussions over opposition unity and leadership.
