No More Secret, Kioni Spills The Beans On Who Will Take Power Come 2027

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, an ally of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, has described Oburu Odinga’s decision to cooperate with the Kenya Kwanza administration as an opportunity for the opposition to regroup, strengthen its political structures and prepare for the 2027 General Election.

Kioni argued that the recent political developments should not be interpreted as a defeat for the opposition but rather as an opportunity to rebuild, refocus and develop a stronger political strategy ahead of the next polls.

Speaking during an interview with Radio 47 on Thursday evening, Kioni expressed optimism that Kenyans would soon witness a revitalised Azimio coalition under the leadership of young, united and determined politicians capable of taking over government.

He maintained that the coalition was focused on rebuilding its grassroots support and positioning itself as a credible alternative to the Kenya Kwanza administration in 2027. He also hinted that significant political realignments could take place before the elections.

The Jubilee Secretary General further highlighted the importance of engaging Generation Z, saying young people would play a critical role in determining Kenya’s political future.

According to Kioni, Azimio is committed to creating space for young people to contribute their ideas, participate in political activities and take up leadership positions as the coalition pursues political and social reforms.

His remarks come amid growing divisions within the opposition following reports that ODM leader Oburu Odinga supported President William Ruto’s administration by backing the nomination of several party leaders to Cabinet positions.

The development triggered disagreements among Azimio leaders, with some coalition principals questioning the decision to cooperate with the Kenya Kwanza government.

Opponents of the arrangement argued that working with the administration could undermine the demands raised by Generation Z protesters, who opposed the Finance Bill and called for the dissolution of the Cabinet during nationwide demonstrations.

The debate intensified after President Ruto announced plans to nominate Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, John Mbadi and Opiyo Wandayi to serve in his Cabinet.

The proposed appointments attracted mixed reactions within ODM and the wider Azimio coalition, with some leaders supporting the move while others questioned whether it contradicted the opposition’s political position and the concerns raised by young Kenyans.

As the 2027 General Election approaches, Kioni’s remarks suggest that sections of the opposition are viewing the latest political disagreements as an opportunity to reorganise and chart a new political direction.
