Tiktok is rubbish, i have no interest using it – Tourism minister Abla Dzifa

According to by Kansemtv on Tuesday 3 November 2026, Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has publicly expressed her dislike for the popular social media platform TikTok, revealing that she does not use the application and has no intention of having it on her mobile phone.

The minister made the remarks during an encounter with some officials at her office, where she was asked about the social media platform and her views on the kind of content being shared by its users.

In a video shared by Project Bureau on October 28, 2026, Gomashie made it clear that TikTok was not among the applications she considered necessary for her personal use. She reportedly described the platform as “rubbish”, using an expression commonly understood in Ghanaian parlance as borla.

Her comments also suggested that she was dissatisfied with some of the content frequently circulated on the platform, which has become increasingly popular among young people and social media enthusiasts across Ghana and other parts of the world.

TikTok has grown into one of the most widely used social media applications globally, providing users with opportunities to create, share and interact with short-form videos covering entertainment, education, business, comedy, music and other areas of interest.

In Ghana, the platform has become an important space for content creators, entertainers, businesses and influencers to reach audiences, promote their activities and build online communities.

However, the minister’s remarks highlight the differing opinions people hold about the platform, particularly regarding the nature and quality of content shared by some users.

Although Gomashie has openly stated her position, her comments do not necessarily reflect the views of the entire ministry or the government’s position on TikTok.
