Petrol drops by just one cent

PREDICTIONS of fuel price relief went unmet after an increase in the slate levy undid any benefit from the general fuel levy cuts.

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources published the official fuel price adjustments, which will come into effect tomorrow (November 4).

Petrol prices drop by a 1c pittance while diesel motorists enjoy a R1.10 and R1.20 per litre cut for 0.05% and 0.005% respectively.

Fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis with respect to a number of local and international factors. Climbing international oil prices, worsened by a weakening rand versus the dollar, did not bode well for fuel recoveries.

The National Treasury announced a R10b relief package, effective from November 4, cutting the general fuel levy for the second time by R1.50 per litre for petrol and R3.00 per litre for diesel.
