NEWS IN: Former Rift Valley Senator Officially Joins ODM Ahead Of 2027 Elections

Former West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio has joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), announcing his political plans ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Poghisio was officially received by ODM leaders at Chungwa House in Nairobi on Tuesday, November 3, where the party unveiled him as its preferred candidate for the West Pokot gubernatorial seat.

In a statement welcoming the former senator, ODM described him as its candidate for the county’s top seat in the 2027 elections.

“Our 2027 Gubernatorial candidate for West Pokot County… Samuel Poghisio,” the party announced.

His decision to join ODM marks a new chapter in his political career as he prepares to return to elective politics, this time targeting the governor’s office after previously representing West Pokot in the Senate.

Poghisio brings experience in national leadership, having served as a senator and held government responsibilities during his public service career.

His entry into ODM also comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with leaders seeking new political alliances and candidates to strengthen their presence across different counties.

In West Pokot, his anticipated gubernatorial bid is expected to introduce another dimension to the contest for the county’s leadership as other aspirants position themselves ahead of the polls.

ODM’s latest recruitment follows Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s decision to join the party on Monday, November 2, after leaving the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Sakaja was welcomed at Chungwa House by ODM leader Oburu Oginga and other senior party officials, bringing an end to speculation surrounding his political affiliation ahead of his 2027 re-election bid.

The two high-profile arrivals highlight ODM’s ongoing efforts to attract political figures from different parts of the country as the next general election approaches.

However, despite Poghisio’s unveiling as the party’s preferred candidate, the formal nomination process will determine who eventually receives the ODM ticket to contest the West Pokot gubernatorial seat.
