Netherlands Queen, Máxima to visit Bank of Ghana for financial health talks

The Bank of Ghana will host Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA), on 4 and 5 November 2026 as part of her official visit to the country.

During the two-day engagement, Queen Máxima will hold a bilateral meeting with Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama. The discussions will review Ghana’s progress in financial inclusion and digital finance, and examine policy and regulatory priorities aimed at strengthening the financial health of households, workers and small businesses.

The central bank and the Queen will also co-host a Roundtable on Financial Health.

According to a statement from Communications Department of Bank of Ghana, the forum will bring together senior leaders from banks, electronic money issuers, payment service providers, insurers, pension providers, regulators and development partners.

Topics to be discussed at the meeting will include how Ghana measures financial health, innovation in savings and responsible credit, the role of insurance, pensions and investment products, workplace support for employees, and collective action across the sector.

The visit follows earlier conversations between Queen Máxima, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and Governor Asiama at the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, where financial health was highlighted as a key priority for economic resilience and inclusive growth.

According to the World Bank’s Global Findex Database 2025, Ghana ranks among Africa’s leading digital financial inclusion success stories, with 81 per cent of adults holding a financial account, a robust digital payments infrastructure and a dynamic fintech ecosystem.

Strengthening financial health is now seen as the next critical stage of the country’s financial inclusion journey.

The Bank of Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive financial system that supports the financial well-being of all Ghanaians and contributes to broader economic growth.
