Mahama Has Not Even Done Half Of What Akufo-Addo Did To Stop Galamsey – Ofosu Ntiamoah

Former Executive Director of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, Kingsley Ofosu Ntiamoah, has slammed President John Dramani Mahama over the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

According to him, President Mahama has not even done half of what former President Nana Akufo-Addo did in the fight against galamsey.

Speaking on recent developments, Ofosu Ntiamoah said the NDC government promised heaven when it was in opposition, but has failed woefully since taking over.

He reminded Ghanaians that under former President Akufo-Addo, even though the fight was tough, there was clear commitment. Akufo-Addo set up Operation Vanguard, Operation Halt, deployed soldiers to water bodies and forest reserves, and was bold enough to say he was putting his presidency on the line to stop galamsey.

He said under Akufo-Addo, galamsey was at least being fought, with excavators being burnt and illegal miners being arrested and prosecuted.

But under President Mahama, he said, galamsey has tripled. Rivers are still brown, forest reserves are being destroyed day and night, and illegal mining has become a 24-hour operation.

β€œWhat has Mahama done? Nothing. He has not done even half of what Akufo-Addo did. In fact, galamsey is worse today than it was two years ago,” he said.

Ofosu Ntiamoah said the NDC promised to end galamsey within months, but almost two years in power, they have no clear plan, no commitment, and no results.

He described the government as inconsistent and unprincipled, adding that it is only interested in exporting more gold while looking away from the environmental destruction.

He called on Ghanaians to demand accountability and to compare the records themselves.
