He beats me with a belt hook whenever I disagree with him or do something he doesn’t like
According to an official Facebook Post by Bongo Ideas on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, fresh attention has been drawn to disturbing allegations of domestic violence involving Ghanaian businessman Richard Nii Armah Quaye, popularly known as RNAQ, and his former wife, Joana Quaye. The allegations, which have generated public interest, reportedly detail years of physical abuse during their marriage.
The post, which carries the caption “He beats me with a belt hook whenever I disagree with him or do something he doesn’t like,” highlights claims made by Joana through her legal representatives, led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame.
According to details contained in a petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police, Joana allegedly endured approximately 11 years of physical abuse during her marriage to the businessman. The alleged incidents included being slapped, punched, kicked and repeatedly whipped with a belt, particularly when she confronted her husband over alleged infidelity.
Her legal team indicated that the alleged violence was not an isolated occurrence but formed part of a prolonged pattern of mistreatment throughout the marriage. They further claimed that some of the incidents were supported by video evidence and had been documented in court proceedings relating to the dissolution of the marriage.
The legal representatives reportedly stated that Joana lodged a formal complaint with the Ghana Police Service on December 9, 2025, seeking investigations into the alleged abuse. However, concerned about what they considered delays in the investigative process, her lawyers subsequently wrote to the Inspector-General of Police on April 14, 2026, demanding an update on the status of the complaint.
The legal team also raised concerns about an earlier incident at the couple’s Dansoman residence, where Richard was allegedly involved in an attempt to force his way into Joana’s bedroom. They urged the police to treat the complaints with urgency and take the necessary steps in accordance with Ghanaian law.
The allegations have also brought renewed attention to the wider conversation about domestic violence, particularly the difficulties some victims encounter when seeking protection and justice.
However, Richard Nii Armah Quaye has publicly denied physically abusing his former wife. In an interview on The Delay Show in April 2026, he maintained that he had never beaten her and described the allegations as part of an agenda against him. His denial means the allegations remain contested and must be established through the appropriate legal processes.
Beyond the personalities involved, the matter raises important questions about domestic violence, accountability and the protection of victims within marriages, regardless of the financial standing or social status of the individuals involved.
As the matter continues to attract public attention, many will be watching to see how the Ghana Police Service handles the complaint and whether the investigations will provide clarity on the allegations.
