Busia International Stadium Project Set to Boost Sports and Youth Opportunities
Busia County is set to receive a major sporting facility after President William Ruto announced plans to construct a new international stadium in Busia town.
The government announced that KSh900 million had been set aside for the project during a public address in Funyula in October 2025. The stadium is expected to improve sports infrastructure in the region and provide young people with better opportunities to develop their talents.
The proposed facility is part of the government’s wider plan to invest in sports and support youth development across the country. Busia has many young people interested in football and athletics, but access to modern sporting facilities has remained a challenge.
Once completed, the stadium is expected to provide a venue for football matches, athletics competitions and other sporting events. It could also attract visitors from neighbouring counties and create business opportunities for traders, hotels and transport operators.
The project is expected to support employment during construction and help local athletes train in improved conditions.
Residents are looking forward to the development, which could strengthen Busia’s position as a sporting centre in western Kenya.
The stadium’s impact will depend on timely construction, proper management and continued investment in sports programmes for young people.
