The West African giants secured a place on the shortlist after reaching the quarterfinals of this year’s tournament, demonstrating their competitiveness against some of the continent’s leading women’s football nations.
The nomination places Ghana among 10 national teams competing for the prestigious continental honour. The Black Queens will face strong competition from African champions Cameroon, WAFCON runners-up Malawi, tournament hosts Morocco, South Africa and former champions Nigeria.
Cameroon earned recognition following their reported triumph at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the Indomitable Lionesses were crowned African champions. Their achievement has strengthened their position among the teams being considered for the award.
Other countries nominated for the honour include Algeria, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire and Mali, completing the 10-team shortlist.
