Bayern Munich vs Ajax Match to Test Kenya’s AFCON Ticketing and Security Systems

Kenya will use the January 5, 2027, friendly between Bayern Munich and Ajax Amsterdam to assess its readiness for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya says the match at Raila Odinga International Stadium will provide an opportunity to test critical systems before the continental tournament.

Mvurya made the announcement on Monday, November 2, following a meeting with newly elected CAF Secretary General Samson Adamu. Adamu had inspected the Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, as part of an assessment of Kenya’s preparations.

The CS explained that the friendly would serve as more than the stadium’s official opening. Kenya and CAF intend to use the high-profile fixture to examine how different match-day operations will work when thousands of supporters attend major international games.

Ticketing will receive particular attention, alongside security arrangements, transport, emergency evacuation and immigration procedures. Broadcasting systems will also be tested, with technical teams from Kenya and CAF expected to work together to identify weaknesses and address them before AFCON 2027.

The exercise is significant because Kenya will need reliable systems to manage supporters, teams and officials during the tournament. Testing these arrangements during the Bayern Munich-Ajax encounter will give organisers an opportunity to assess potential challenges before the competition begins.

Mvurya said the government was accelerating the remaining construction and preparation work at both Kasarani and Talanta. He added that different government agencies were coordinating their efforts to ensure the country meets its hosting responsibilities.

AFCON PAMOJA 2027 will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Kenya is expected to stage key matches, including the opening ceremony, making the preparations at its stadiums and supporting facilities an important part of the regional tournament.

The January friendly will therefore provide an early assessment of Kenya’s operational readiness, particularly in areas that directly affect supporters attending matches.
