Akwatia MP Bernard Bediako Baidoo Accuses Dennis Miracles Aboagye of Stealing GH₵55 Million
A heated political confrontation has erupted in Ghana after Akwatia Member of Parliament Bernard Bediako Baidoo accused NPP Communications Director Dennis Miracles Aboagye of stealing GH₵55 million belonging to the country.
The accusation was made during a live television discussion, where the two political figures engaged in a tense exchange that quickly attracted public attention.
During the programme, Baidoo launched a verbal attack on Aboagye, declaring: “You are a thief! You have stolen GH₵55 million of Ghana’s money!”
The confrontation reportedly took place during a discussion about Ghana’s fight against illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey. However, the conversation became increasingly heated as the participants turned their attention to allegations of corruption and accountability.
The GH₵55 million figure is linked to investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), where Aboagye previously served as Executive Secretary.
Aboagye has faced scrutiny over the alleged irregularities and has disputed aspects of the claims surrounding the amount involved. He has also rejected allegations of wrongdoing.
Rather than allowing the exchange to end there, Aboagye reportedly fired back at the MP, describing him as an “empty lawyer” and a “thief”. He also raised separate allegations involving Baidoo and a financial dispute, which the legislator disputed.
The heated exchange has since generated discussions about political accountability, corruption allegations and the increasingly confrontational nature of political debates in Ghana.
The incident has also highlighted how discussions involving public funds can quickly become personal confrontations between political representatives.
However, the accusations exchanged during the television programme should not be treated as proof of criminal wrongdoing, as the allegations remain subject to the appropriate investigative and legal processes.
