“We Told You Gachagua Is Not a Person to Admire” Robert Alai Speaks Out as Muturi Sends Warning

Robert Alai has reignited the political debate surrounding former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after reacting to a strongly worded statement by Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi.

Alai declared that Kenyans had already been warned about Gachagua, sharing Muturi’s remarks as fresh disagreements emerged within the United Opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In his statement, Muturi accused Gachagua of political bullying, double-speak and actions that could weaken cooperation among opposition leaders.

The former Attorney General argued that Kenya’s presidency cannot be secured through the support of one community alone, insisting that leaders must build wider alliances across the country.

His message appeared to challenge Gachagua’s approach to coalition-building at a time when opposition parties are working towards a common strategy.

Muturi also questioned whether the opposition was focused on winning State House or allowing individual leaders to pursue control of parliamentary seats and county positions.

He warned that disagreements over political arrangements could distract the coalition from its larger objective.

According to him, a successful presidential campaign requires compromise, discipline and a willingness to put collective interests ahead of personal ambitions.

The Democratic Party leader further insisted that no individual owns the United Opposition and that political partnerships should be based on mutual respect.

He cautioned against ultimatums and supremacy contests, arguing that dividing the opposition into separate political formations would not automatically improve its chances against President William Ruto in 2027.

Alai’s reaction adds another dimension to the growing debate over Gachagua’s role in the opposition.

With leaders competing to influence the coalition’s direction and the eventual presidential ticket, their public exchanges could shape how supporters view the movement.

The central question remains whether the opposition can settle its differences and agree on a shared strategy before the next election.

Muturi maintained that Kenya’s national interests must come before individual political ambitions, declaring that the country is bigger than any one politician.
