Vocal Lawyer Questions Why Waititu Is Being Pursued as He Demands Unbiased War Against Corruption
Lawyer Donald Kipkorir has ignited a fresh political debate after questioning the intensity with which former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, popularly known as Babayao, is being pursued over corruption-related matters, while challenging authorities to demonstrate similar determination against other public officials suspected of accumulating unexplained wealth.
In his remarks, Kipkorir appeared to question whether Waititu had become an exceptional target in Kenya’s anti-corruption campaign, arguing that the country could make remarkable progress if the same investigative energy and determination were extended to every public official suspected of engaging in corruption.
The prominent lawyer further shifted attention to the extravagant lifestyles of some individuals holding public offices, questioning how officials whose publicly known sources of income are largely limited to government salaries manage to acquire multiple residential properties, expensive vehicle fleets and even helicopters.
Kipkorir’s concerns also touched on the apparent financial generosity displayed by certain public figures, who are able to distribute millions of shillings regularly despite questions surrounding the sources of their enormous wealth.
He maintained that the fight against corruption should not be selective or influenced by political connections, personal relationships or positions of power.
Instead, investigative agencies should pursue unexplained wealth wherever it appears, regardless of whether the individuals involved are serving in government or operating outside its structures.
His intervention has consequently placed the spotlight on the broader accountability debate, raising questions about equal treatment before the law and the consistency of Kenya’s anti-corruption institutions.
Ultimately, Kipkorir wants a comprehensive crackdown that leaves no sacred cows, insisting that the battle against corruption must target every suspected offender without discrimination.
