There are no basis for Kurt Okraku to seek third term as GFA president – Aduana FC CEO
Aduana FC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Collins Atta Poku, has questioned the need for Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku to seek a third term, insisting that the focus should be on addressing the challenges facing Ghana football.
Okraku is reportedly considering another four-year mandate after GFA Congress approved constitutional amendments in 2025 to increase the presidential term limit from two to three terms.
The amendment was passed at the association’s 2025 Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, paving the way for Okraku to potentially contest another election.
However, Atta Poku believes discussions about extending the current president’s tenure are misplaced, arguing that more attention should be given to the reforms needed to revive the domestic game.
Speaking to Ahenfie FM, the Aduana FC CEO questioned what more Okraku could achieve if he were given another term.
“I don’t want to hear the (Kurt Okraku for GFA president) third-term conversation. What is there again to be done?” he said.
Atta Poku also expressed doubts about the GFA’s capacity to spearhead the structural changes needed to restore confidence in football administration and improve the state of the game.
“The GFA lacks the capacity to lead the reforms Ghana football needs. To get the game back on its feet, we must give communities a genuine sense of ownership and belonging,” he added.
The debate over Okraku’s potential third-term bid comes ahead of the GFA presidential elections scheduled for October 2027.
Several individuals have already been linked with the race, including former GFA Executive Council member Samuel Annim Addo, former Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association chairman Ralph Gyambrah, Karela United chief executive Elloeny Amande, former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew and former GFA vice-president George Afriyie.
Okraku, who was first elected GFA president in October 2019, is yet to publicly declare whether he intends to seek another four-year mandate.
