“The Colour Won’t Change Anything” Ronald Karauri Reacts Hours After Sakaja Joined ODM
Kasarani Member of Parliament Ronald Karauri has reacted to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s decision to officially join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), making remarks that have triggered fresh political debate ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Karauri’s reaction comes just hours after Sakaja formally announced his political association with ODM during an event held at the party’s headquarters, Chungwa House, in Nairobi on Monday, November 2, 2026.
The governor’s decision marks a major shift in Nairobi’s political landscape, considering that he previously belonged to President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Sakaja was received by several senior ODM leaders, with the move attracting attention from politicians and supporters across the political divide.
In his response, Karauri reportedly dismissed the significance of the political switch, arguing that changing party colours would not necessarily translate into meaningful changes in leadership or service delivery.
His remarks have attracted attention because he is also among the politicians associated with the Nairobi gubernatorial contest expected in 2027.
The Kasarani MP has previously expressed interest in becoming Nairobi governor, setting the stage for what could become a competitive battle involving several established political figures.
Sakaja’s entry into ODM is particularly significant because the party already has influential leaders who have expressed interest in the Nairobi governorship. Among them are Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Makadara MP George Aladwa.
The development could therefore complicate the party’s nomination process as different aspirants seek to convince ODM members that they are best suited to represent the party in the next election.
Sakaja has also maintained his association with the broad-based government arrangement despite joining ODM, highlighting the complicated political relationships emerging ahead of the 2027 polls.
Meanwhile, Karauri’s remarks have added another dimension to the unfolding political contest, with Nairobi residents expected to closely follow how the different aspirants position themselves.
As the election approaches, the question will be whether Sakaja’s new political home strengthens his chances of retaining City Hall or whether other contenders will successfully challenge his leadership.
For now, the governor’s ODM move has intensified political discussions, while Karauri’s reaction suggests that the competition for Nairobi’s top seat is far from settled.
