President Bola Tinubu Approved Purchase Of SUVs For FCT Traditional Rulers- FCT Minister, Wike
According to Daily Trust on November 2nd, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the purchase of brand-new Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) for newly upgraded traditional rulers across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed.
Wike made the announcement on Saturday, October 31, 2026, during the Rainbow Coalition Stakeholders Rally and unveiling of FCT National Assembly candidates organized by the FCT Stakeholders Assembly at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.
According to the minister, the president approved the provision of the vehicles in recognition of the important roles traditional rulers play in preserving cultural heritage, maintaining peace, and promoting development within their communities.
Speaking at the gathering, Wike said President Tinubu believes traditional rulers should receive the recognition and support befitting their positions in society.
“Mr. President has said that you cannot just answer royal fathers by mouth. You cannot just answer royal fathers by entering Keke Napep. You cannot answer royal fathers by entering Okada. All of you, by the grace of God, before December, you will go with your SUV cars,” Wike stated.
The minister further noted that Tinubu had approved the upgrading of traditional stools in the FCT, an exercise he said had remained unattended to for 27 years.
He described traditional institutions as important partners in grassroots governance, particularly in addressing security challenges, resolving community disputes, and preserving the cultural identity of indigenous communities.
The announcement was made during a political gathering attended by traditional rulers, chairmen of the six FCT Area Councils, community leaders, youth and women’s groups, as well as representatives of different political parties.
At the event, stakeholders also endorsed President Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections, alongside Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda and other National Assembly candidates.
In addition to the vehicles for traditional rulers, Wike disclosed that President Tinubu had approved four buses for youths in the FCT to support their activities and engagement.
The minister also urged political supporters to strengthen grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections, introducing an initiative tagged “Operation Deliver Your Polling Unit.”
The development has brought renewed attention to the relationship between the federal government, traditional institutions, and grassroots political structures in the nation’s capital.
Wike maintained that traditional rulers deserve adequate recognition and empowerment because of their contributions to community stability and development.
