Police arrest 72 year old Samuel Osei Anto for killing Uncle & niece over GH¢50K debt at Sakumono

According to report by Dailyviewgh on Monday 2, November 2026, the Ghana Police Service has arrested Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, the prime suspect in the murder of two relatives at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, within the Greater Accra Region, following days of investigations into the incident.

Osei Anto was reportedly arrested at his hideout in Tikrom, near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, after allegedly going into hiding following the fatal shooting of 57-year-old George Atubiga and his 47-year-old niece, Irene Atubiga.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, and is believed to have been triggered by a financial disagreement involving an alleged debt of GH¢500,000.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that George Atubiga had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from the suspect but had failed to repay the money. This reportedly led to tensions between the two men, culminating in the deadly confrontation at the victims’ residence.

According to information gathered so far, Osei Anto visited the residence on the morning of the incident, accompanied by a 47-year-old woman identified as Beatrice Mumuni, to demand payment of the outstanding amount.

Mumuni, who has reportedly been arrested in connection with the case, is alleged to have led the suspect to the residence of the deceased before the shooting occurred.

A misunderstanding is said to have developed during the encounter, resulting in the shooting deaths of George Atubiga and his niece, Irene Atubiga.

Following the incident, the police launched investigations to identify and apprehend those suspected to have been involved in the killings. The subsequent arrest of Osei Anto at Tikrom is expected to assist investigators in establishing the events that led to the double murder.

During the investigation, a Smith & Wesson pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition were reportedly retrieved in connection with the case.

The police are continuing investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the respective roles of the suspect and other individuals linked to the case.

The arrest has brought renewed attention to the tragic killings, which reportedly arose from a financial disagreement. Authorities are expected to pursue further investigations as the case progresses.
