Passengers’ Lives at Risk as Traffic Cop Allegedly Pulls Keys From Moving Super Metro Bus
A Super Metro bus driver in Nairobi was forced to make a split-second decision to avoid a potentially tragic accident after a traffic police officer allegedly removed the vehicle’s ignition keys while it was still moving.
The incident left passengers and other road users terrified after the bus veered off the road and crashed into a parked matatu.
Footage of the incident, which has since circulated on social media, captured the dramatic aftermath, with angry residents confronting the traffic officer over his alleged actions.
According to a witness who recorded the incident, the driver attempted to stop the bus after the officer allegedly removed the ignition keys. However, the braking system reportedly failed to respond, leaving him struggling to control the moving vehicle.
Faced with the possibility of causing an even bigger accident, the driver reportedly decided to steer the bus towards the roadside pavement to prevent it from continuing along the busy road.
The bus eventually rammed into a parked 14-seater matatu, bringing it to a stop. At least one other vehicle was also reportedly damaged, with the witness claiming that three vehicles would require repairs following the incident.
The witness blamed the officer for allegedly putting the lives of passengers and other motorists at risk.
Nairobi Residents Confront Traffic Officer After Super Metro Accident
Following the collision, a group of angry Nairobi residents gathered around the traffic officer, demanding an explanation for his alleged actions.
The officer appeared to be making a phone call as members of the public confronted him, accusing him of causing the accident by removing the keys from a moving public service vehicle.
Some residents blocked his path, insisting that he should remain at the scene until the owners of the damaged vehicles received assistance and accountability was established.
The officer was eventually seen making his way through the crowd and onto the road, with several people following him.
The incident has reignited debate about traffic police officers’ conduct when dealing with public service vehicle operators, with Kenyans questioning the safety of passengers during roadside enforcement operations.
As the footage continues to circulate online, many will be hoping that the circumstances surrounding the incident are investigated and those responsible are held accountable.
